Today is a special day because it's Santi's birthday!馃巶馃幍馃崁
SANTI, have a wonderful time and a very happy birthday!
Hope your special day brings you all that your heart desires!
It may seem complicated at the beginning, but remember that "Practice makes Perfect".
The more you practise the better you understand it!
So let's get to work.
To start with, let's analyse some sentences:
1. John: "How often do you eat junk food?" Direct Speech - Question (?)
⬇ ⬇ ⬇
"How oftendo you eat junk food?
⬇ ⬇
2. John asked me how often I ate junk food. Reported Speech.- Statement (.)
As you see:
1. We leave out (dejamos fuera, omitimos) the auxiliary verb do in reported questions,
2. We change present tense of the main verb eat to the past tense ate.
3. We write reported question as a statement: Subject + predicate➨ I ate...
Look at the table and compare Direct Speech and Reported speech.
Now let's move on to some exercises.
Open you Activity book on page 72.
Exercise 1.
a) Read the reported questions and underline the subject and the predicate.
