RIGHT TO EDUCATION

One of the rights that Spanish Constitution establishes is the right to education. But do you know that not all people in the world have the right to go to school and learn even such basic things as reading and writing?  In some countries it even can cost you your life.

I want you to meet Malala Yousafzai who has become a global icon for her fearless efforts to defend every child’s right to education while living under very dangerous circumstances.

Malala was born and raised in Pakistan. Her father was an educator. Malala learned to read and write very early.  She enjoyed going to school. But in 2007, when The Taliban took over the country. everything changed. They dominated the law and they banned girls from going to school. Only boys were allowed to study. But Malala didn't want to give up. She raised her voice in protest against the extremist force oppressing her people.
The Taliban attempted to silence her by violence.  There was an attempt on  her life. But Malala survived, rose up and chose to fight back with words.
