NATURAL SCIENCES 20-04-2020
Good Monday everyone!
Today you're going to have only two sessions: Natural sciences and Art and Crafts. So don't look for English activities today.
And tomorrow we'll start UNIT 6 of our English textbook!
And today, in our Natural sciences session we're going to talk about inventions.
WHAT IS AN INVENTION?
An invention is a new object, machine, medicine or process that has been created by a person. Most inventions have been created to solve a problem.
Do you know that a lot of inventions were inspired by Nature? Very often we observe nature and imitate or copy its mechanisms to create new things.
There is even a special word to describe this process. Research and find out how we call the imitation of elements found in nature for the the purpose of inventing new things. Write your answer in the blog.
Today we're going to learn about one of the most important inventions in clothes technology that was inspired by plants: hook-and-loop fastener (cierre).
But nobody refers to it like this. We all call it VELCRO. If you look around your house I'm sure you'll find some objects that have Velcro.
It uses very small hooks and very small loops to join two pieces of material together, hence its name.
Watch these two short videos and find out the origin of VELCRO fasteners.
Who created Velcro?
When was it created?
When was the invention patented?
What inspired its invention?
After watching the videos take this short VELCRO QUIZ
And now let's play a Scavenger hunt game! Search for different objects around the house that have Velcro and write them down in the blog.
Can you think of more inventions that imitate nature elements? Write your answers in the blog.
